We have an appointment on Tuesday for my grandpa at St. Anthony's in OKC. He is going in for his first visit. I had previously written about him in the "Tumor on Spine" post. My Grandma wanted me to ask if you can give us an idea about how long we are looking at from the day of appointment to the treatment process. I have been reading about it online and found a couple of different answers. Would he have the Fiducial placement same day (if he is a candidate) or would he come back, etc? He is 70 so he is on medicare with a supplemental insurance. Just wanting to give her a little more information.
Thanks!

Are you sure he needs fiducial placement at all? What kind of tumor does he have and where is it located?

It is squamous cell. The tumor is on his spine. He has had surgery once to remove the tumor and they got about 95 % of it. It was eating away at his bone, so they had to put a rod and pins in there as well.

He would not need a fiducial if the tumor is next to the spine. Spinal tracking is utilized instead. It should be only a few days between your intial visit and the actual treatment. He will need new scans (MRI and CT) for treatment planning purposes and some time for treatment planning itself.

He will be seen for consult the first day. We then have to run through the approval process which should bed quite short since he has Medicare. Then we have to schedule the scan which includes myelogram, so that takes a few place. The treatment usually starts about a week later.
